Balance speed and service as a courier

When someone hires a courier they expect them to deliver a fast service. This holds true for the people at both ends of the equation. If you were looking for someone to deliver your parcel to its destination, you would expect that person to deliver quickly so your customer is satisfied with the service. Conversely if you were the customer you would expect a good delivery service from the company you placed an order with, so you could get your goods as quickly as possible.
So where does this leave you if you are the courier? Well, it is important to be fast, certainly, but it is also important to bear in mind another very important aspect of this process - good service.
Aspects of good service
Let's look at this from another point of view before you give your answer. If you were the customer, which option would you choose? Would you choose the delivery man who dumps your parcel on your doorstep, gruffly asks for a signature and then disappears without saying thank you? Or would you choose the delivery man who takes a few extra seconds - no more - to offer a smile, some good manners and perhaps a polite 'thank you' as they leave your home?
Most of us would prefer the latter example. Let's be honest, if you are a courier you are up against the clock all day to ensure you get your deliveries done on time. However it doesn't have to mean you forget about good service in your rush to deliver everything within the specified time limits. It is wise to remember the customer always comes first, and that means being able to combine a fast courier service with a good one.
Many modern companies go for speed above everything else. However if you can combine both elements as we have described above, it will make your business more memorable. Customers will remember those people who are able to provide the very best service - regardless of whether they are receiving the parcels or sending them. Imagine what this could do for your business. Being memorable in a world where there is a lot of competition can be difficult, but if you can manage it you will stand a chance of winning a lot more business than your competitors. When you think of the example above where the courteous service takes that little bit longer, you might be surprised at the potential benefits that can come from this approach.
As you can see, it makes sense to think about the importance of balancing both speed and service when you tackle this kind of work for a living. It means you can keep everyone happy and your business may well be more successful as a result. The more you can do to get ahead, the better.
