There’s nothing more liberating than donning the leathers and getting out in the beautiful British countryside on your motorbike. But where are the best, most beautiful or most exhilarating routes in the UK? Great Britain boasts some incredible roads for motorbike riders, from stunning mountain scenery in the Lake District, endless moors covered in purple heather in the Dales to breathe taking routes on the south coast, we really do have it all.

Whether you’re a novice rider, or more experienced, there is something for everyone. Below we have given just a few truly great motorcycling routes for you to enjoy.

THE CAT AND FIDDLE, A537, BUXTON TO MACCLESFIELD

This route is 11km long and runs through the Peak District. The route offers stunning views and is one of the most popular in the UK. There are turns and twists to keep you on your toes, and of other riders to keep you company along the way!

THE HORSESHOE PASS, A542, NORTH WALES

This road is so named because of its shape and the way it winds its way around the valley. There are both steady inclines and declines to enjoy, and with the highest peak being 1,400 ft above sea level, it’s a great place to take in the fantastic views.

THE ANTRIM COAST ROAD, A2, NORTHERN IRELAND

The A2 is a 60-mile trip through beautiful fishing villages along the Northern Ireland coastline. Ending at The Giants Causeway, it’s a great place to spend a few days exploring and enjoying the freedom of being out on your bike.

HARDKNOTT PASS, LAKE DISTRICT

This road is definitely not for the feint hearted and is one of the trickier rides for bikers. The road winds through the Lake District up and down a very steep and twisting route between Eskdale and the Duddon Valley. Although a very tricky ride, you will be rewarded with fantastic views along the way and can carry on winding your way down to the coast, finishing at Ravenglass for fish and chips by the sea.

THE A82, GLASGOW TO INVERNESS

This route is ideal for bikes with miles of uninterrupted road to enjoy. The route takes in some of the most iconic sights in Scotland, including Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Fort William and Loch Ness. These rides give just a flavour of what you can experience as a biker on our British roads. Ensure that wherever you decide to ride, you fully plan your journey and make sure you don’t take on roads that are beyond your ability. Stay safe and drive carefully.
